PHOENIX, AZ: The Texas Wesleyan University’s men’s golf team is in ninth place at the Grand Canyon Invitational. The team played two rounds at Estrella Mountain Ranch on Monday.
CSU-San Bernadino leads the tournament at 560 through two rounds. The host team, Gran Canyon Univeristy is tied for 5th (581) and the Rams are tied for 9th at (595).
Point Loma Nazarene University’s three-time 1st-team All-American selection Sam Cyr leads all individuals at 14-under par (60, 70-130).
Sophomore Stuart Martin led the Rams with a one-over 145 (75, 70) and is tied for 16th position. Drew Koonce (148) is tied for 32nd. Kevin Doskocil (151) is tied for 48th. Armando Villarreal and Carlos Arenas (154) are tied for 65th in the field of 90 golfers.
The Rams will try to make up some ground in final round action on Tuesday. They currently trail seventh place St. Mary’s University (TX) and Northeastern State University by a manageable 11 strokes.
