PHOENIX, AZ:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team shot a final round 299 on Tuesday to hold on to ninth position at the Grand Canyon Invitational.

CSU-San Bernadino won the event, played at Estrella Mountain Ranch, with a 21-under par 843.

Point Loma Nazarene’s Sam Cyr shot a final round 71 to finish at 201 and lead all individuals by six strokes.

Texas Wesleyan was led by Stuart Martin who, after an even par round on Tuesday, rose to a tie for 14th position at 217 for the tournament.  Drew Koonce (224) tied for 29th.  Kevin Doskocil (227) tied for 40th.  Carlos Arenas (229) tied for 47th, and Armando Villarreal (232) tied for 65th.

The Rams, ranked 8th in the Golf World/Nike NAIA Coaches’ Poll, will return to action at the Sam Houston Invitational.  That event will be held at Elkins Lake on October 13-14.
