FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (5-4-2, 2-2 RRAC) took a 3-0 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (1-12, 0-5) in Red River Athletic Conference action at Martin Field on Saturday.
The Rams got the scoring started early when Theo Nabassi collected the rebound off of his own shot and scored in the 11th minute. In the 26th minute Leo Cubrilo rifled a shot off the crossbar, collected the rebound, and scored the games second goal.
The game became heated in the second half. In the 53rd minute, a pair of red cards were delivered and both teams played with ten men for the remainder of the contest.
Adis Druzanovic found the net off an assist from Vedran Ceric in the 65th minute to cap the scoring at 3-0.
Texas Wesleyan dominated control of the ball, taking a 25-5 margin in shots and 9-2 in corner kicks. Joakim Soderbaum needed just one save to record the shutout while his counterpart, Emilo Frias, made nine saves for SAGU.
“I was disappointed with our management of the game,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs. “To play poorly and still win 3-0 is good. We really needed that conference win.”
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they host Northwood University in another RRAC contest. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start at Martin Field. |
