FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (8-22) dropped their first game of the day to Wiley College (22-8) in four (25-17, 17-25, 25-18, 25-22) but rebounded nicely with a pair of wins over Texas College(1-19) in three (25-14, 25-12, 25-12) and Jarvis Christian College (0-18) in three (25-13, 25-12, 25-14).

In the match against Wiley, Destiny Clemmons and Jenee Burrhus-Clay led the Lady Rams with nine kills each. Evoni Darling led the team in assists with 20, and Katlynn Romig led the Lady Rams with 12 digs. In a hard fought game that included 20 tie scores and 14 lead changes, the Lady Rams played hard to try and force the match into a game five, but Wiley narrowly escaped the their charge.

In the match against Texas College, the Lady Rams dominated, winning by more than ten points in all three games. Clemmons led all players with 11 kills, Darling led all players with 26 assists. Kristin Venhuizen went on a service attack, with a career high 7 against the visiting Steers.

In the match against Jarvis Christian it was the same story different team for the Lady Rams as they continued their dominance, outscoring the Bulldogs by 10 or more in all three games. The Lady Rams spread the ball around against the Bulldogs. Brittney Person and Camille Burrhus-Clay each took 7 kills, and Clemmons and Jenee Burrhus-Clay taking 6 kills each in the match. Darling tallied 15 assists, while Emily Millican tacked on 11 of her own.

Head Coach Christy Clawson had this to say about the lady rams performance throughout the tournament, “ I’m really proud of our girls, they played hard all weekend. We lost one game, but we know what we have to work on in order to beat them in the (conference) tournament.”

The Lady Rams next game is against Southern Nazarene University on Tuesday, October 21, at 7:00 pm. in the Sid Richardson Center.
