FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (8-23) took a loss to Southern Nazarene University (15-11) in a tight match that went to five games (25-19, 24-26, 25-22, 22-25, 15-12).
The Lady Rams showed tremendous effort and heart despite the loss and wouldn’t let the Crimson Storm take control of the match. “We played hard”, head coach Christy Clawson said about her team’s performance. “We played with a lot of guts and just made errors at the wrong time. It's definitely coming together. They’re going to finish next time we’re in that situation”.
The match was intense from start to finish and both teams put up impressive numbers. Southern Nazarene’s Morgan Loewen led all players with 16 kills, while Lindi Lesbock led all players with 41 assists. The Crimson Storm had 3 players tally over 10 kills and five players with over 10 digs.
The match was extremely close, boasting 23 tied scores and 17 lead changes.
Leaders for the Lady Rams included Brittney Person with 13 kills, Destiny Clemons with 10 kills, and Kristen Venhuizen with 8 kills. Evoni Darling posted a double-double with 20 assists and 10 digs for the Lady Rams. Venhuizen added 16 digs and Katlynn Romig led the team with 24 digs. Emily Millcan was just two digs away from a triple double, posting 11 kills, 20 assists, and eight digs for the Lady Rams.
The Texas Wesleyan volleyball will make the short trip to Dallas to take on conference opponent Paul Quinn College on Tuesday, October 28. That match set to start at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Rams’ next home game will be against Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Tuesday, November 4, at 7:00 p.m. in the Sid Richardson Center.
