RAMS IN 5th AT NAIA PREVIEW

SILVIS, IL:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team is tied for fifth place after one round at St. Ambrose University’s NAIA Preview.  The tournament, held at the Tournament Players Club @ Deer Run, give the Rams a first look at the course that will play host to the 2009 and 2010 NAIA National Championships.

Under very difficult conditions, rain and temperatures in the 40’s, the Rams shot a round of 318 and are ten shots off the lead.  Lee University paced the field at 308.

Armando Villarreal led the Rams with a round of 78.  Drew Koonce and Paco Saracho shot 79.  Stuart Martin shot 82, and Kevin Doskocil rounded out Texas Wesleyan’s round with a card of 83.

Head coach Kevin Millican commented on the high scores turned in by the entire field.  “The course is very hard, and the conditions didn’t help.  Now we know what to expect tomorrow.”

Conditions should be similar in Saturday’s final round.
