SILVIS, IL: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team tied for sixth place in St. Ambrose University’s NAIA Preview. The tournament, held at the Tournament Players Club @ Deer Run, gave 15 teams a first look at the course that will play host to the 2009 and 2010 NAIA National Championships.
In spite of rainy and cold conditions, the tournament was hotly contested with just eight shots separating the top nine teams. Lindenwood University shot 321 on Saturday and overtook Lee University by one stroke. Lindenwood finished at 630 while Lee finished at 631 after a final round of 323.
Texas Wesleyan shot 318 on Saturday to finish at 636 for the Tournament. Armando Villarreal finished tied for 11th at 156. Drew Koonce also broke the top-20 in a tie for 19th at 158. Stuart Martin finished at 160 (T25), Paco Saracho 164 (T43), and Kevin Doskocil 166 (T53).
The tournament was the final test of the fall semester for Texas Wesleyan.
