HOBBS, NM:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (7-5-2, 4-3 RRAC) took a 5-2 win over the University of the Southwest (4-9, 2-4) in their final regular season contest.

After trailing 1-0 at the half, Christian Villasenor netted the equalizer and Charlie Torres put the Rams ahead 2-1.  USW came back to tie the game at two, before the Rams ran away with the 5-2 win.

Villasenor converted a penalty kick for the eventual game winner and Marcus Harris and Leo Cubrilo added goals of their own.

“The guys finally decided to play,” head coach Josh Gibbs said.  “When we took control it was really good soccer.  At 2-2 they might have backed down, but they didn’t.  They made the decision to play better and really jumped on them.”

The Rams finished the regular season in a tie for third in the Red River Athletic Conference Standings at 4-3.  They will be the fourth seed in the upcoming RRAC tournament with Texas College earning the third seed with a 3-2 win over the Rams earlier this season.

Texas Wesleyan will host the RRAC tournament, November 6-8 at Martin Field.
