The Rams Online
Press Release

LADY RAMS ARE NUMBER ONE SEED
November 1, 2008

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (9-6, 6-1 RRAC) had already secured a share of the Red River Athletic Conference regular season championship.  By virtue of a UT-Brownsville victory at the University of the Southwest on Saturday, the Lady Rams took the edge in a three-way tie atop the standings and will also be the top seed in the conference tournament.

Texas Wesleyan, UT-Brownsville, and Northwood all finished the regular season with identical 6-1 records.  The tiebreaker was decided on goals scored against conference opponents with a maximum of five per game.  Texas Wesleyan scored 27 goals, UT-Brownsville 26, and Northwood 21.

Texas Wesleyan will host the RRAC men’s and women’s soccer tournament November 6-8.  As the top seed, the Lady Rams earn a bye through the quarterfinal round.  They will play the lowest remaining seed in Friday’s semifinal.  That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.

“I’m very happy for our three seniors,” head coach Josh Gibbs said.  “This group accomplished something that we haven’t done here before.”  Texas Wesleyan has won two RRAC Tournament titles, but had not won the regular season title before.

“The girls have been terrific,” Gibbs continued.  “With three teams tied at the top, we did what we had to do against the rest of the conference.”  Texas Wesleyan scored at least five goals and did not allow a single goal in their games against the remaining six RRAC teams.

Gibbs said the focus now is all on the tournament and a semifinal matchup on Friday.
