FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (11-25, 8-2 RRAC) pulled out an impressive win against undefeated Southwestern Assemblies of God University (22-11, 9-1 RRAC) in five games (16-25, 26-24, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13).
The Lady Lions took game one, while the Lady Rams kept a slight lead throughout game two winning 26-24. In game three, the Lady Rams were down 16-21 and came back to win 25-22. SAGU edged by the Lady Rams in game four, and in game five the Lady Rams seemed to be in a hole they couldn’t crawl out of down 10-5 but never gave up and took game five 15-13 to seal the match and knock off their undefeated conference opponent.
“We played consistent, we played with guts, and we never let up especially at the end,” says head coach Christy Clawson. “I’m really proud of our girls. We’ve been working on a lot of things. We finally got over the hump, and things started clicking. Now we need to carry this momentum into the next two weeks.”
Leaders for the Lady Rams included Brittney Person with 16 kills, Evoni Darling picked up 30 assists, Katlynn Romig led all players with 25 digs, and Kristen Venhuizen recorded a double double with 11 kills, and 15 digs.
The Lady Rams continue play on Saturday as they take on Bacone College at 11:00 am and Our Lady of the Lake University 3:00 pm. |
