SHAWNEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (0-2) dropped a pair of matches to open their season on Friday. The Lady Rams fell 3-0 to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith (1-0) and 3-0 to Oklahoma Baptist University (1-1).
Against Arkansas Fort Smith, the Lady Rams battled to a 25-20 loss in game one before UAFS stormed to a 25-8 win in game two. That paved the way for a 25-16 clinching win for UAFS in game three.
Devin Warren’s six kills paced the Lady Rams. Evoni Darling had nine assists and six digs, while Kristen Venhuizen finished with seven digs and five kills.
Against Oklahoma Baptist, the Rams fell in three very tight matches, 25-16, 25-22, and 25-15.
Venhuizen posted six kills and 10 digs. Angelica Arroyo and Darling each had 10 assists, and Carleigh Dollar posted 10 digs.
“We just haven’t put it together yet, but it will get there,” commented head coach Christy Clawson. “We are a much better team than last year. The potential is there. We just have to put it all together.”
The Lady Rams travel to Bethan, OK, on Saturday, where they will take on Southern Nazarene University. That game is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start. |
