BETHANY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (1-2) picked up its first win of the young season against Southern Nazarene University (0-1) on Saturday. The Lady Rams topped the Crimson Storm 3-2.
Texas Wesleyan opened with a 25-19 win, but SNU evened the match with a 25-15 win in game two. The Lady Rams trailed throughout game three, but rallied to push the Crimson Storm before falling 26-24.
The Rams trailed again in game four, but came back for a 25-22 win to force a deciding fifth game. In the final game, the Rams nipped the Crimson Storm 15-12 to earn the victory.
Head coach Christy Clawson was pleased with her team’s performance. “We showed a lot more heart today. We were still a little inconsistent, but we showed some of our potential today.”
Destiny Clemons led the Lady Rams with 16 kills. Kristen Venhuizen (11 kills, 11 digs) and Evoni Darling (25 assists, 10 digs) each posted double doubles. Chelsy Covington contributed 18 digs, while Kristina Harris finished with 15 digs. Angelica Arroyo also posted 19 assists for the Lady Rams.
Texas Wesleyan will return to the court on Wednesday, when they travel to Stephenville, TX, to take on Tarleton State University. That match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start. |
