FORT WORTH, TX: The 22nd ranked Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (2-0) took a 6-2 win over Ouachita Baptist University (1-1) at Martin Field on Sunday.
The Lady Rams dominated in an impressive first half. Jaimie Romaguera started the scoring in the fifth minute with her first of three goals in the half. Jodi Blowers converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0 in the sixth minute.
Romaguera scored again in the 22nd minute before Jessica Watton found Vanessa Lopez for a goal just two minutes later. Romaguera sent the Lady Rams to the break with a 5-0 lead after netting her third goal in the 37th minute.
Ouachita Baptist outscored Texas Wesleyan 2-1 in the second half. Brittany Davidson and Haley Whisenhunt brought the Tigers to within 5-2 before Texas Wesleyan’s Kayla Doherty scored on a penalty kick in the 76th minute.
The Rams outshot the Tigers 34-13 in the game. Goalkeeper Katy Houchin made one save in the win.
Head coach Josh Gibbs commented on a lackluster second half. “We only played one half today, and we need to play all ninety minutes. I tried to give some playing time in the second half, and they did not take advantage of the opportunity. Still it is definitely good to be 2-0.”
The Lady Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they host Oklahoma Baptist University. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start at Martin Field.
