FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (4-0) completed their third shutout of the season with a 1-0 win over Schreiner University (1-2) at Martin Field on Sunday.
At 4-0, the Lady Rams are off to the best start in school history. The 2003 squad began the season at 3-0.
On Sunday, Freshman midfielder Cara Lumpkin scored her first collegiate goal in the 26th minute off an assist from Brandi Berrier.
The Texas Wesleyan defense made that goal stand up as the Lady Rams did not allow a single shot on goal from the Mountaineers.
Katy Houchin was not called upon to make a save and still notched her third shutout of the season. For the game, Texas Wesleyan out shot Schreiner 24-4.
Head coach Josh Gibbs was pleased with the team’s performance during a day game following a night game. “It was good to get a shutout today. We were tired after a really competitive game last night, and to see the girls come out and do it again and get a shutout was very good.”
The 22nd ranked Lady Rams will now gear up for Oklahoma City on Tuesday. The Lady Rams will host the Stars at 5:00 p.m. on Martin Field. |
