FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team won a pair of games last week to improve to 6-0 overall and break into the NAIA top-25 for the first time. The Rams moved from receiving votes to 24th in the latest coaches’ poll.
At 6-0, the Rams are off to the best start in program history. Last week they defeated then 6th ranked Oklahoma City University 2-1 and then took a rain soaked 1-0 win over Bethany College to remain undefeated.
The most recent poll also marks the first time that both the men’s and women’s teams have been ranked at the same time. The Lady Rams dropped one spot to 22nd after a 1-1 week.
Head coach Josh Gibbs, who coaches both the men’s and women’s teams, commented on the dedication of his players. “The players have earned it,” Gibbs said. “The coaching staff hasn’t changed anything, the players just committed to putting in the hard work which has led to good results.”
Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Friday, when they travel to Chickasha, OK, to take on the University of Science & Arts (OK) who received votes in the latest poll with a 4-1 record. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start. |
