Head Coach: Christy Clawson

Christy Clawson took over as head coach of the Texas Wesleyan University volleyball program in 2006.

Last season the Lady Rams went 10-6 in Red River Athletic Conference play which was good for third place in the regular season.  The team featured six All-Conference selections and an Academic Scholar-Athlete selection in Lauren Hinojos.

In her first season with the Rams, Clawson led the team to a 20-10 record, an 8-3 mark in conference play, and an appearance in the RRAC Semifinals.  The team featured three All-RRAC players, two All-Region VI selections, one Academic All-American, and one All-American in Liz Meng.

In 2007, Clawson led the Rams to a 32-16 record and a perfect 10-0 mark in the RRAC North Division.  The team reached the RRAC championship match and took thrilling five set wins over Wayland Baptist and Lubbock Christian to reach the Region VI final.  The 2007 Lady Rams featured five All-RRAC players, three All-Region VI selections, and one Academic All-American, while Liz Meng won her second All-American award.

In 2008, Clawson led the Rams to a 9-2 conference record that was good for the third seed in the RRAC Tournament. The Lady Rams reached the RRAC semifinals before being ousted in an epic five-game match by the eventual champion, Wiley.  The 2008 Lady Rams featured six All-Conference selections, including Defensive Specialist of the Year, Katlynn Romig.

Clawson had previous collegiate coaching experience at Texas Woman's University where she served as assistant volleyball coach and home event manager from 2002-2004.  As assistant coach, she was integral in on the court training, strength and conditioning, travel, recruiting, fundraising, directing and developing camps and tournaments, and mentoring athletes. She also served as an assistant coach at Texas Lutheran College in 1995.

In the fall of 2007, Clawson was inducted into the Texas Lutheran University Athletic Hall of Fame.  As a setter at Texas Lutheran, she was a team captain and was named 1st-team All-Heart of Texas Conference and 1st-team All-Region while leading the Bulldogs to the 1993 NAIA National Tournament. She still holds several school records including single season records for service aces (114), service aces per game (.717), and assists (1,810), as well as career records for service aces (247), service aces per game (.585), and assists per game (9.858).

Clawson has also held internships at both the Southland and Lone Star Conferences where she worked on eligibility, compliance, scheduling, record keeping, statistics, and championships.

In addition, she has extensive high school coaching experience. She joined the Rams from Keller High School where she served as outdoor education instructor and coordinator while assisting with the volleyball and soccer teams.  From 1996-2002 she held coaching and teaching positions in the Liberty Hill, Eanes, Pflugerville, and Lake Travis ISDs.

Clawson is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, as well as USA Volleyball and holds an IMPACT Certification and CAP level I & II.  She received her bachelor of arts in kinesiology and secondary education from Texas Lutheran College and completed her master of science in kinesiology with a specialization in sport administration at Texas Woman’s University.

Coach Clawson resides in Fort Worth with her husband, David Diver, and their son, Jackson.

 

Assistant Coach: Brendan Kerr

Brendan Kerr is in his first season with the Lady Rams.  He brings three years of coaching experience at the club and collegiate levels to Texas Wesleyan. 

A native of Campbell, CA, Kerr attended the University of Arizona where he received his bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies.  Kerr served as the Club Director for Arizona Men’s Volleyball as well as three seasons as a volunteer assistant varsity coach for the NCAA Division I women’s program and one year as the head coach of the Arizona Women’s Club team.  Beginning in his junior year at Arizona, Kerr served as a head coach and court trainer for VBC Dinamo in Tucson, AZ.  This summer he will be an apprentice coach for USA Volleyball.

 

At Arizona, Kerr played for the men’s club team where he was a team captain and starting libero while leading the Wildcats to three Mountain West Conference Championships.  Kerr also played for Bay to Bay Volleyball Club, a perennial top-10 program, in Santa Cruz, CA, under the direction of Brad Keller. 

 

Strength & Conditioning Coach: Robert Brown

Robert Brown begins his second season with Texas Wesleyan in 2009. He is the Founder and CEO of the well-regarded Robert Brown Sports Performance, which is one of the country's only facilities specializing in volleyball performance training.

A well-known, respected and outspoken leader in the Volleyball Sports Performance industry, Robert has written feature articles for sport training magazines throughout North America including Protraineronline, Performance Conditioning (Soccer, Softball, Cycling, and Volleyball) and Volleyball Magazine.

An accomplished presenter, Robert provides educational seminars covering Volleyball Sports Performance and training topics to Sport coaches (Junior High, High School, and Collegiate) throughout the USA.

Additionally, Robert currently serves as Primary Master Instructor for the USA Volleyball Conditioning Accreditation Program (VCAP), which is an educational entity certifying Trainers and Coaches as Volleyball Conditioning Instructor (VCI) worldwide. Lastly, Robert serves as Master of Sports Science for the International Sports Science Association (ISSA) in Carpentaria, CA. He is certified as a Performance Enhancement Specialists thru The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

 

Manager: Cristina Ibarra

Cristina Ibarra is in her fourth season with the Texas Wesleyan volleyball team.

Cristina played volleyball for coach Jack Warren at Arlington Heights High School and helped the team to an undefeated district season.

She is the daughter of Raul Ibarra and Imelda Garcia and is majoring in education.
