[About Us]
Beta Beta Beta was founded in 1922 by Dr Frank G Brooks
of Oklahoma City University as a society for undergraduates, in particular,
who are dedicated to improving their understanding and appreciation
biological study and extending the boundaries of human knowledge through
scientific research.
The idea of an honor and professional society for biology
students spread rapidly and by 1925, the society was a national organization.
Biennial national conventions of student and faculty members began in
that year and in 1930 the society journal, BIOS, began publication of
student research, articles of interest to biologists and society news.
As the society grew, it was divided into regional and district groups,
each of which holds a convention annually. At the heart of every district
and national meeting are student research papers presented in the style
of graduate meetings. Awards are given for outstanding individual and
chapter accomplishment.
At Texas Wesleyan, we have a strong biology department,
and we benefit greatly from the independent research that all biology
majors must complete. This independent research helps the biology majors
to eb ready for graduate school by giving them an upper hand in the
research world, and gives many students the chance to work with techniques
that many undregraduates do not get the chance to do. These upper level
biology students are given a chance to publish their research in the
TriBeta journal BIOS. For more on the journal BIOS, click

[Membership Information]
There are five major types of membership that we have
at Texas Wesleyan. It is important to note that with each membership,
the member recieves a free two year subscription to BIOS. The first
membership is a regular membership, and this is for those biology
majors who have completed 3 semesters of biology classes and have maintained
a B average overall. The membership due for a regular member is $30.00/year.
Similarly, graduate members are those students or faculty members
that have finished their undergraduate work and have gone to grad school.
This membership is $30.00/year.
For those students that have not completed 3 semesters
of biology classes, an associate membership is available. This
membership is $20.00/year, until the student completes 3 semesters and
maintains a B average overall. Once the student completes the 3 semesters
of biology classes, this student is offered a promotion to regular
membership at a cost of $10.00.
