PRATER, KLAASEN RECEIVE EXEMPLARY TEACHER AWARD
Two Texas Wesleyan professors were honored at the annual Academic Convocation on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Dr. Katherine Prater, associate professor of chemistry and director of advising, and Dr. Thomas Klaasen, professor of economics and finance, received the Exemplary Teacher Award. Each year, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church invites Texas Wesleyan and other Methodist schools to select a fellow faculty member to receive the Exemplary Teacher Award. Dr. Allen Henderson, provost and senior vice president, presented certificates to Prater for the 2008-2009 school year and to Klaasen for the 2007-2008 school year. The Academic Convocation for Texas Wesleyan is held at the beginning of each school year as an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to gather and reflect on the nature of their mission for the year – to receive, provide, and support a comprehensive higher education. The faculty wears academic regalia to honor the occasion. This year’s keynote speaker was Texas Wesleyan Trustee Janie Faris, BMEd ’77, MAEd ’83.
