FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TO HOST EXPANDING YOUR HORIZONS SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS CONFERENCE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS

Texas Wesleyan University will host the nineteenth annual Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics conference for middle school girls from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Sid W. Richardson Center, 1100 S. Collard. Participants do hands-on activities in workshops presented by professional women in the science or mathematics fields.

Parents and teachers are invited to volunteer at the conference and/or attend the adult workshops, scheduled to take place during the student workshops. The adult workshops will include All About College, Psychology of the Middle School Girl, and Math/Science Activities.

Expanding Your Horizons stresses the value of science and math and seeks to increase young women’s interests in these fields. The program provides approximately 350 girls with information about career opportunities, helps them develop and discover their own interests and talents, and introduces them to female role models with careers in math- or science-related fields.

The conference is $5 per person. Cost includes conference activities, a morning snack, lunch and a T-shirt. Attendance is limited and registration is required. The registration deadline is Friday, March 9. For more information on registration, contact Dr. Jane Moore, Texas Wesleyan University conference coordinator, at (817) 531-4882 or jamoore@txwes.edu. Registration forms can be printed from the web site, www.txwes.edu/eyh.
