CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS WESLEYAN RECOGNIZE MASTER IN MANAGEMENT STUDENTS Representatives from Texas Wesleyan University and the City of Fort Worth gathered recently at City Hall to recognize the 13 city employees partipating in the University's new Master in Management degree program. The new degree, with a concentration in public administration, is designed to prepare future managers and leaders in government and business (profit and non-profit). Mayor Mike Moncrief spoke of the city's need for a new generation of leaders. "You’ll often hear me say that you’re only as good as those you surround yourself with. In Fort Worth, we are blessed with highly professional and capable leaders. These leaders also carry a lot of history with them. There’s no question these men and women are our city’s greatest asset.... But, our city is also fortunate to have many outstanding, young, and up-and-coming employees. These talented people are motivated, and they are looking for opportunities to take on more responsibility," Moncrief said. "We must make sure they are ready to lead a seamless transition into top management positions overseeing important city functions. The graduate management program with a Public Administration concentration is helping us do just that." Charles Boswell, city manager, and Joe Paniagua, assistant city manager, also represented the City of Fort Worth at the reception, which was held April 16 in City Council Chambers. Dr. Harold Jeffcoat, president, Dr. Allen Henderson, provost and senior vice president, Dr. Hector Quintanilla, dean of the School of Business Administration, and Dr. Charlie Little, director of Graduate Business Programs, represented Texas Wesleyan. "We worked in partnership with the City to formulate the degree plan," said Little. "The Master in Management, with the public administration concentration, moves away from the traditional MBA plan and focuses on the things that managers and leaders actually do in organizations: budget and finance, managing change, ethics, public relations, communicating. The degree will really prepare this next generation to manage and lead the city."
