Polytechnic Cemetery Receives 1000th Historic Texas Cemetery Designation

Representatives from the Texas Historical Commission (THC), Tarrant County Historical Commission, Texas Wesleyan University , Tarrant County and Fort Worth and members of the Polytechnic community celebrated the designation of Polytechnic Cemetery as the 1000th Historic Texas Cemetery on Wednesday, March 5. Descendants of those buried in the cemetery, which dates back to 1895, were on hand to participate in this special tribute.    

The Texas Wesleyan University history faculty members and students began researching the Polytechnic Cemetery in 1997. In 2002, with help from Mae Bruce and her family, and under the instruction of Dr. John Matthews, students mapped the cemetery.
