TEXAS WESLEYAN'S MUSIC SEASON, PRESIDENT'S COUNCIL KICK OFF WITH OPERATIC SPOOF The Texas Wesleyan University Music Department will begin its concert season at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, with a gala music department benefit concert featuring Colleen Mallette, a world-famous soprano, and Keith Critcher, accompanist, in Martin Hall. The event will also mark the President's Council Kick-Off. Mallette and Critcher will present The Lamaze School of Singing Presents: How to Birth a Song – An Operatic Buffet. Mallette has been charming audiences across the United States and abroad with her one-woman recital spoof, which unabashedly pokes fun at opera’s “sacred cows.” After years of serious study and numerous roles on the musical theatre and operatic stage, Mallette has combined her love for traditional singing with her love for having a good time into a career art form. Mallette and Critcher received rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, the oldest and largest arts festival on the globe. There she performed at the prestigious “C” Venue and was featured on two live web casts through World Art.com from Princes Street Gardens. Keith Critcher is a highly sought after accompanist throughout Dallas/Fort Worth. He currently is vocal coach/accompanist at Texas Wesleyan, minister of music and worship at East Dallas Christian Church, piano instructor Texas Christian University Prep School and director of the Harris Chorale at Harris Methodist Hospital. The President’s Council celebrates individuals who are committed to excellence in education and who generously contribute financial resources to make it possible at Texas Wesleyan. The concert is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in the Louella Baker Martin Pavilion. For more information, call 817-531-4978. Martin Hall is located on the Texas Wesleyan campus at 1309 Wesleyan St., Fort Worth, TX 76105. Online: Texas Wesleyan Music
