FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RAMS HOST 12th ANNUAL O.D. BOUNDS GOLF CLASSIC

The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team host the twelfth annual O.D. Bounds Golf Classic today, Monday, Sept. 21. The event is being held at Diamond Oaks Country Club, and all proceeds benefit the O.D. Bounds Endowment, which supports the golf program at Texas Wesleyan.

The tournament is named for Orrin Davis Bounds Jr. who served as head coach for the Rams for 40 years. Bounds was a legend at Texas Wesleyan, the NAIA, and was one of the most respected men in the golfing world. He was the first coach to ever be inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame and was the inaugural member of the Texas Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame. Bounds, who passed away in 2004, led the Rams to 109 tournament victories, including three national championships.

Under Bounds’ guidance Texas Wesleyan Men’s Golf became the most storied golf program in NAIA history. The team has qualified for the NAIA National Championship in 48 of 55 years of membership and finishing outside of the top-ten on only three occasions. The Rams also hold an NAIA record six national titles. Last season, the Rams posted their ninth runner-up finish at the NAIA National Championship. The 2009-10 Rams return eight letter-winners including three players who participated in last year’s NAIA National Championship.

The Rams will return to intercollegiate action on Sept. 28-29 in the Rattler Invitational at Pecan Valley Golf Club in San Antonio.
