RODRIGUEZ RECEIVES STANLEY C. ISRAEL REGIONAL AWARD FROM THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY
Dr. Ricardo E. Rodriguez, professor of chemistry, is the recipient of the ACS Southwestern Regional Meeting 2008 Stanley C. Israel Regional Award for advancing diversity in the chemical sciences. The American Chemical Society's Committee on Minority Affairs recognized Rodriguez's initiative and dedication in creating and sustaining the “Chemistry Camp for Kids” for elementary school students from disadvantaged communities and his support for Project SEED. The committee noted that his vision in facilitating continued engagement of students and teachers throughout elementary and high-school science instruction programs, to ensure successful college careers, enhances both the advancement of minority students and the diversity of the chemical enterprise, honoring the legacy of Dr. Stanley C. Israel. The award consists of a medal and a $1,000 grant to support and further the activities for which the award was made.
