DAVE LIEBER TO BE KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DAY
Tarrant County’s very own “Yankee Cowboy” will be the keynote speaker for University College Day at Texas Wesleyan University. Dave Lieber, Watchdog columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, will give the keynote address at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, in Martin Hall. The address is free and open to the public.
University College Day celebrates the scholarly activity of students and faculty by providing them with the opportunity to take part in presentations, panel discussions, art projects and multi-disciplinary events. Presentations and discussions will take place from 10:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Eunice and James L. West Library orientation room and gallery and may include a variety of topics: literature, science, math, social studies or even theater or music. The sessions are free and open to the public. Click here for a full schedule of events.
Lieber, humorist and storyteller, was a metro columnist for the Star-Telegram for twelve years, covering life in North Texas from the perspective of the New Yorker that he is. (Perhaps “was” – his columns noted a growing appreciation of all things Texan, including the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo). The best of his columns appear in a book, The Dog of My Nightmares, published in 2003. Lieber has also written I Knew Rufe Snow Before He Was a Road and Give Us a Big Hug (both with Tim Bedison).
Lieber is also known for his volunteer work; he is co-founder of Summer Santa, an all-volunteer charity that has provided services to more than 30,000 children, including summer camp scholarships, funding for back-to-school shopping sprees, and complimentary back-to-school and pre-camp physical exams. Lieber received the Will Rogers Humanitarian Award for this service to his community.
University College Day Keynote address by Dave Lieber 9:25 a.m. Martin Hall 1309 Wesleyan St., at the northeast corner of Rosedale Street and Wesleyan Street. Free parking is available on campus.
