CHARLES WESLEY BIRTHDAY TOUR DEC. 14-23

 

Charles Wesley Join Jesse Sowell, professor of religion, and a small group of friends for a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the birthday of Charles Wesley, one of the two Wesley brothers who began the Wesleyan movement and perhaps the most influential hymn writer in the English language.

Sowell, who has led more than 20 Wesleyan Heritage tours in England over the last 25 years, will lead the tour Dec. 14-23. You will be in Charles Wesley's birthplace, Epworth, on his birthday. Then you will visit most of the important sites connected with Charles and John Wesley’s ministry during the eighteenth century.

 

This study/tour will include visits to Methodist Heritage sites, including:


  • Epworth, birthplace of John and Charles Wesley
  • London: Wesley's Chapel, Aldersgate, Charterhouse, St. Paul's Cathedral, Charles Wesley’s gravesite
  • Bristol: The New Room (Methodism's oldest building), Charles Wesley’s home, Hanham Mount (where John Wesley preached outdoors), Pil (where Francis Asbury & other early Methodist preachers sailed to America), the Kingswood site of the Wesley's first school                 
  • West Bromwich, Francis Asbury’s childhood home
  • Oxford, where the Wesleys attended university and where John taught, and where their Holy Club got the name "Methodists"
  • Brecon, Wales, hometown of Sarah Gwynne Wesley, Charles Wesley’s wife

The tour will also include other historic and scenic places such as Stonehenge, Windsor, Hampton Court Palace, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Piccadilly Circus, and the Tower of London.


The $1,990* cost of the trip includes:

  • round-trip airfare from Dallas-Fort Worth to England
  • ground transportation in the United Kingdom daily between December 15 and 23 using our own minibus or hired coach
  • lodging for eight days in British B&B guesthouses, inns, and hotels (double-occupancy),
  • two meals daily (breakfast and dinner on most days)
  • admittances to historic sites, museums, etc.
  • guides throughout and Wesleyan heritage and history lectures
