FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WESLEYAN CHORALE TO PERFORM MOZART MASS NOV. 13

The Wesleyan Chorale will perform Mozart's Grand Mass in C Minor at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Martin Hall. The chorale will be accompanied by a 20-piece orchestra for this performance of one of Mozart's best known choral works.

The mass was written not as a commissioned work but in honor of his recent wedding to Constanze and her recovery from illness. The work, like his Requiem, is unfinished, but it's not clear why. Many parts of Mozart's C Minor Mass are similar to his Requiem, and reflect his interest at the time in the works of Handel and Bach.

Julie McCoy, professor of music and head of the voice department at Texas Wesleyan, will be featured as soprano soloist for this concert. McCoy has performed throughout the Metroplex and has soloed with the Fort Worth Symphony and Opera as well as with numerous chamber and professional choral ensembles.

The 60-voice chorale, directed by Steve Simons, professor of music, includes Texas Wesleyan students, faculty and staff members, Wesleyan music alumni and other friends to the University community.  “It thrills me each week to see the interaction between students and alumni as they all assemble and partake of 'music making' of the highest degree,” said Simons. “The chorale has grown in number and quality over the past four years and this fall’s performance should evidence the high music standards of this fine choral organization.”

The concert is free and open to the public. Nicholas Martin Hall is located at 1309 Wesleyan St., Fort Worth.
