WESLEYAN CHORALE IN CONCERT APRIL 29 The Wesleyan Chorale will perform Anton Bruckner's Mass in E Minor at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in Martin Hall. “The music is rich and beautiful in the late-19th century European style, and should be very enjoyable for our audience to hear,” said Stephen Simons, professor of music and director of the Chorale. “Written for the dedication of the ground-breaking for the new Linz Cathedral in 1866, it was first performed in the open air; therefore Bruckner chose a wind ensemble with brass instruments to accompany the eight-part choir. It makes for an incredibly rich and powerful sound.” The Chorale will be accompanied for the Mass in E Minor by a 14-piece wind ensemble comprised of Texas Wesleyan students and community musicians. The evening will begin with a performance by the Chorale of Bruckner's motet Os Justi, directed by Jerome Bierschenk, visiting assistant professor of music. The 65-voice Chorale includes Texas Wesleyan students, faculty and staff members, Wesleyan music alumni and other friends to the University community. The concert is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow. Martin Hall is located at 1309 Wesleyan St. on the Texas Wesleyan campus.
