Second Annual Halloween Concert at Wesleyan
 Come and enjoy a haunted night of fun as the Wesleyan Wind Ensemble sets the mood for another spooky Halloween. The one-hour event, which starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, will get everyone in the spirit for trick-or-treating. The free performance, held in Martin Hall, will be followed by cake and treats while the judges award a prize for the best Halloween costume.
The concert will include some of the holiday’s spooky favorites including medleys from Broadway’s The Phantom of the Opera and Wicked. In addition the concert will feature some classics such as Bach’s Fugue from The Well Tempered Clavier that will leave the audience members with chills. Business Office Welcomes New Controller
 Lori Logan, formerly with local public accounting firm Patrick H. Admire, has joined Texas Wesleyan University as the new controller in the business office. She started Oct. 24. Her previous experience includes serving as vice president of finance for Medical Matrix, Inc., vice president and chief financial officer for OnPoint, L.P., and chief accountant for the North Central Texas Council of Governments. Logan received a BBA in accounting from the University of Oklahoma. |
PTK Alumni Association Hosts Fall Festival
The Texas Wesleyan PTK Alumni Association is having a Community Fall Festival from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 on the quad. Our Phi Theta Kappa Alumni are honor roll transfer students from junior colleges in the United States who attend Texas Wesleyan. These students have dedicated themselves to community wellness and improvement. Since they are a new organization on campus, they need your support to help make a difference in the community.
You can help by donating candy or purchasing raffle tickets for $2 each. PTK alumni will be selling raffle tickets or you can purchase them on at the event Saturday. Please help by dropping off bagged candy at one of the following locations by this Thursday, Oct. 26:

Chemistry Seminar, "Rediscovery of the Elements"

Student Ambassadors Visit from Yonok University
Texas Wesleyan hosted two student ambassadors from Yonok University in Thailand Oct. 16-20. The students were Saowanit Pongkawong, whose nickname is Rainy, and Tisana Trahathai, whose nickname is Paeng. After being greeted by President Harold G. Jeffcoat, Provost Allen Henderson and Associate Provost Helena Bussell, they attended classes, met with student groups, faculty and staff, and saw Fort Worth sights. In several classes, the visitors gave PowerPoint presentations on Thai culture, history, food, dance, music, dress, architecture, and general customs. Paeng and Rainy's visit was part a three-university trip which also included Dallas Baptist University and Texas A&M. All three universities have a special connection to Yonok Univeristy and welcomed the students as they exchange cultural ideas and customs. The trip was arranged by Professor Peter Colley, who is currently in Thailand. Betsy Johnson, coordinator of International Programs, organized their schedule at Texas Wesleyan. |
Texas Wesleyan University School of Law MPRE Review
Professor James McGrath will hold a substantive review for the November MPRE exam, teaching how to study for the exam and pass it with one week of diligent study. The review will be f rom 10 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in Room 201. Attendees must pick up a packet of materials from Christina Rodriquez, faculty secretary, across from Room 125 on the North Wing. Women Exes Fundraiser
Texas Wesleyan Women Exes will hold a fundraiser book review at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in Bragan Fellowship Hall. The event will feature Dr. Elizabeth Alexander, assistant professor of history, and her book Notorious Woman: The Celebrated Case of Myra Clark Gaines. Ayala Named RRAC and Region VI Player of the Week
Texas Wesleyan University’s Sandra Ayala has been named Red River Athletic Conference and Region VI Volleyball Player of the Week for the period of Oct. 16-22, and for the second consecutive week, Jennifer Irwin was named RRAC Setter of the Week.
With 32 kills and 18 digs in three conference wins last week, Ayala continued to average a double-double per match this season. With just four matches remaining in the regular season, her season average now stands at 13.5 kills and 10.4 digs per match. Ayala recorded 14 kills and 8 digs in a 3-0 win over Jarvis Christian, 14 kills and 7 digs in a 3-0 win over Wiley, and 4 kills and 3 digs in a 3-0 win over Texas College.
For Irwin, a freshman from Grapevine, it was her second consecutive Setter of the Week Award. Irwin has settled in and brought consistency to the Rams offense. She contributed 66 asssists (22 per match) and 17 digs in three 3-0 conference wins last week, and she has been a key component to the Rams winning eight of their last ten matches.
The Lady Rams improved to 17-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play with the three wins. They will return to the Sid Richardson Center for Parents' Night at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, when they host Austin College. The last home game of the season, Senior Night, will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, against Houston Baptist. |
