"Elijah" Coming to Wesleyan Tonight

G clef Wesleyan Chorale and orchestra present Mendelssohn's oratorio "Elijah" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Polytechnic United Methodist Church. "This may be some of the most dramatic music written in the 19th century as Mendelssohn conveys in music the trials of the old testament prophet Elijah," notes Steve Simons, conductor of Wesleyan Chorale. "Faced with adversity with the prophets of Baal, Ahab and Jezebel, Elijah overcomes tremendous odds in winning the people of Israel to allegiance to the one true God".

The 60-voice Chorale will be accompanied by a 22-piece orchestra and will feature Julie McCoy and Joe Davisson, of the Texas Wesleyan music faculty, as soloists. The role of Elijah will be sung by Blake Davidson, bass-baritone from Richardson. There is no admission charge and a reception will follow.

International Week Nov. 13-17

Globe This week is International Week at Texas Wesleyan University. International Week is a tradition that has been enjoyed at Texas Wesleyan for many years. It is a week to celebrate unity in the diversity of cultures and to enjoy some of the traditions of other countries. There are 42 international students attending Texas Wesleyan University from 28 different countries. International Week is a way of recognizing the importance of international education and our international students, and it is also a fun way of helping our campus become more aware of other nations by participating in different cultural activities. These free activities include fun activities ranging from learning to play popular European Games Wednesday afternoon to watching the movie "Love Actually" Friday night. Interesting and more scholarly presentations include Open Microphone in Spanish on Tuesday to a multi-media show on Brazil on Friday. All students can find information on Wesleyan’s Study Abroad programs on Wednesday. The most popular event of the week is always the International Fair at noon on Thursday where our international students showcase their cultures with displays and food from their countries. SOAC, SGA, Student Life, West Library, Dora Roberts Residential Restaurant, professors and staff all support this week, and we encourage all students to take advantage of the different activities that will broaden and enrich their lives. For a full schedule of events or for more information, visit http://www.txwes.edu/internationalprograms/IntlWeekEvents.htm. Call (817) 531-4965 with any questions.
