Judy Pérez Named Great Woman of Texas

Photo of Judy PerezJudy Pérez, '04, coordinator of graduate business programs, was honored by the Fort Worth Business Press as a Woman of Influence in their Great Women of Texas list, published with the Nov. 3 edition of the newspaper. The list of 22 women is published annually, and winners are chosen from nominations from the community. In an interview published in the paper, Pérez noted the influence of her mother on her success: "My mom and dad both had eighth-grade educations, and my mom was a single mom raising my brother and me. She always held two or three jobs at a time, so she knew education was important. And even though she couldn't always help us with [our schoolwork], she always got us whatever help we needed with tutors." Pérez will graduate this month with a Master of Business Administration from Texas Wesleyan.

Marie Glick Celebrates 100th Birthday

Photo of Marie GlickToday, Wednesday, Dec. 5, is Marie Glick's 100th birthday. The Fort Worth Business Press recently featured her in an article; click here to read it.

Glick has been part of the campus community since 1938, when she married Dr. Walter Glick, dean of the college. She still lives on campus today - in an apartment on Rosedale. At 100, she remains active, handling her own finances, exercising daily, and gardening. Over the years, she has given generously to the university (often anonymously) and that includes donating the home she shared with her husband - now known as the Glick House. In November, it was dedicated as the Glick House Community Counseling Center, which will provide counseling for mental health, addiction, marriage and family concerns, and more.

Glick, who holds a BBA and an MBA from the University of Texas, served in positions of teacher and principal at the Masonic Home High School from 1933 to 1974. In 1961, she took a trip around the world. During a two-year stay in Germany in the 1940s, Glick taught at the U.S. Army Dependents School. She was named Honorary Alumna of the Year in 2002 by the Texas Wesleyan Alumni Association.
