Wesleyan Singers Celebrate the Season
Wesleyan Singers, Texas Wesleyan University’s premier choir, will present a Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Martin Hall. The performance is free and open to the public. Under the direction of assistant visiting professor Mark Stamper, the choir will bring some of the classics of the season and timeless works by some of history’s favorite composers. The featured works of the concert are Vivaldi’s Gloria, and selections from Britten’s Ceremony of Carols. The Gloria, which features soloists senior Stephanie Kelly, sophomore Stephanie Darbo, and senior Colleen Burnie, will be accompanied by professional wind and string players from all over the Metroplex. The selected works from Ceremony of Carols include the fiery This Little Babe and the sweet Balulaow with soloist soprano Julie McCoy, associate professor of music at Wesleyan. Opening the concert will be Wesleyan’s small performing ensemble Trouveres performing two of the holiday’s finest carols: Bring a Torch Jeannette Isabella, and a new arrangement on Away in a Manger titled A Day in a Manger. In addition to the major works, Wesleyan Singers will also be performing a lively twist on the classic Christmas song Jingle Bells, and a beautiful arrangement of the church anthem While Shepherds Lately Knelt. All members of the Wesleyan community are invited to join in the occasion and start their holiday season with the beautiful music that the Wesleyan Singers and Trouvères offer. Thirty-Seventh Annual Omega Chi Christmas Party: Donations Needed
The Thirty-Seventh Annual Omega Chi Christmas party for underprivileged children is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13. This has become a very important and worthy tradition on our campus—one that needs your support in order to continue. For some children in the Polytechnic community this may be the only Christmas party they will have and the only gifts they will receive. Your help is needed to support the children. A list of names of about 100 needy or underprivileged children from the Polytechnic area, ranging in age from four to twelve, has been obtained from the Community Center. Omega Chi will assign names from this list to participating sponsors. Sponsors will act alone or in teams. If you cannot afford to sponsor a child by yourself, find a friend to help sponsor along with you. The Sponsors are asked to do the following:
Please send your name, phone number, email address, and mailing address to Jesse Sowell via email or deliver to PUMC 308. Omega Chi will get you the information on your child as soon as possible. Contact Jesse Sowell at (817) 531-4914 with any questions. |
