Take a break and try a fun new sport during International Sports Day, hosted by the International Club. Join your friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 12, and learn the most popular games in Sweden, France and everywhere.
A Swede will teach the easy game of Kubb, loved by college-age students in Sweden as a way to relax and have fun. Kubb is similar to bowling, but with sticks instead of balls. Boule (or Petanque) is played in city parks throughout Europe. The French especially love this sport. It is similar to the game of horseshoes but with metal balls instead of horseshoes. Texas Wesleyan's own table tennis team will offer free lessons to help improve your hand at this sport, popular worldwide.
Kubb and boule will be held on the mall, and table tennis can be found in the Boys and Girls Club across from the University on Rosedale Street. For more information about this international sports day, contact Betsy Johnson, coordinator of International Programs, at (817) 531-4965. |

Wesleyan Chorale Performs Haydn's Mass in Time of War
The Wesleyan Chorale will perform Haydn's Mass in Time of War and Nancy Faxon's Romans XII at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in Martin Hall.
Mass in Time of War (Missa in Tempore Belli), a 50-minute work composed by Franz Joseph Haydn, was written in 1796 at a time when Austria was waging a losing war against France as Napoleon, then a young general, continued to win every battle. Haydn, an Austrian, wished for the French to be driven from his homeland and included the sounds of canons and military fanfares in the Agnus Dei section to convey this time of war during the French occupation. The Dona Nobis Pacem that concludes the work is not only set as a prayer for peace but for Austrian victory.
Besides the Haydn Mass scored for solo quartet and chorus, the Wesleyan Chorale will perform Nancy Faxon’s short motet Romans XII. This dramatic setting, from the letters of Paul, provides a contemporary balance to the Classicism presented with the Haydn Mass.
The Wesleyan Chorale, conducted by Stephen Simons, professor of music at Texas Wesleyan, is an ensemble comprised of Wesleyan students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University.
There is no charge for admission. Martin Hall is located at 1309 Wesleyan St. at the northeast corner of Rosedale Street and Wesleyan Street on the Texas Wesleyan University historic campus. For more details, contact the Texas Wesleyan Department of Music at (817) 531-4992 or go to http://www.txwes.edu/music/music/index.htm. |

Will their separation provide a deeper appreciation for the love they once shared or create a permanent gulf between them? The Fantasticks, featuring Michael Kreitzinger and Whitney Park and Jonathan Phillips, is the quintessential celebration of love, in all its gorgeous simplicity and heartbreaking complexities, and features such classic tunes as "Try To Remember," "Much More," and "I Can See It."
