Wesleyan Chorale in Concert April 29
The Wesleyan Chorale will perform Anton Bruckner's Mass in E Minor at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in Martin Hall. Bruckner's late Romantic style is evident in the rich harmonies of the Mass, which he completed in 1866. The chorale will be accompanied for the Mass in E Minor by a wind orchestra of oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets and trombones. The evening will begin with a performance by the chorale of Bruckner's motet Os Justi, directed by Jerome Bierschenk, visiting assistant professor of music. The 60-voice chorale, directed by Steve Simons, professor of music, includes Texas Wesleyan students, faculty and staff members, Wesleyan music alumni and other friends to the University community. The concert is free and open to the public. Nicholas Martin Hall is located at 1309 Wesleyan St., Fort Worth. For more information about Wesleyan Music, click here or call 817-531-4992.

All donations, including monetary donations, should be brought to the Student Life Office by Friday, May 9 (but May 2 for Jeans Day!). Playmarket 2008: Spend Mother's Day with One Bad Mother
Please join Wesleyan Theatre at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 11, in the Thad Smotherman Theatre for the concert reading of Far From the Tree by Chuck Fain, English major at Texas Wesleyan.
This one-act features the reading talents of real-life mother and son Ben and Gina Phillips
along with theatre majors Garrett Beames and Rene Sarradet.
Directed by Connie Whitt-Lambert, professor of theatre, this black comedy is rated PG for subject matter and language.
Ma Spenser (played by Gina Phillips, director of development and alumni relations), devoted mother to at least one of her two children, fakes an illness in order to persuade the favorite son, Jason (freshman theatre major Garrett Beames), to move from Chicago and take care of her. Jason has pressing issues back home and calls on his brother, Jesse (Ben Phillips, junior theatre major), to take his place. Neither Jesse nor Ma Spenser is happy with the arrangement. Their personalities clash as they try to coexist in the same house. Bickering and back talking abound. In spite of the well-meaning aide of neighbor Mrs. Kirkpatrick (Rene Sarradet), the situation finally comes to a head when Ma Spenser's real intentions are revealed.
Wesleyan Playmarket provides a venue for student and alumni playwrights to present their original work to an audience.

Texas Wesleyan Celebrates Athletic Excellence
The Texas Wesleyan Athletic Department recently celebrated the outstanding achievements of its student-athletes. With three teams still in competition, the Rams have won three conference championships and four national titles. They boast two All-Americans with several more to come by spring’s end, and about 40% of their athletes have posted GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
The Rams honored all of their seniors and presented numerous special awards. The Most Outstanding Male and Female Athlete awards went to Hayden Lackey (baseball) and Ines Perhoc (table tennis). Lackey has already set the NAIA record for relief appearances and is just three shy of setting the record for total appearances. Perhoc helped the Rams to four national championships, and defeated her coach Jasna Reed to win the women’s singles national title.
Mrs. Maurice Bounds was on hand, attending her 65th athletic awards banquet, to present the O.D. and Maurice Bounds Scholar-Athlete Award. The award given to the male and female athlete with the highest cumulative GPA went to Brooke McNabb (softball) and Joakim Soderbaum (men’s soccer). The Gene and Ann Burge Sportsmanship Award went to Erinn Miller (volleyball) and Ryan Ragsdale (baseball). The Champions of Character team award went to the men’s golf while the individual award went to Mitch Hendon (men’s golf). For a full list of awards, including team awards, click here. |
