State Senator Wendy Davis Visits Campus
Dr. Harold Jeffcoat, Board of Trustees Chair Anne Skipper and several Board of Trustees members recently hosted Texas State Senator Wendy Davis and her staff for a campus tour and visit. As the first member of her family to graduate from college, Sen. Davis has a unique understanding of the opportunities provided by a higher education.

Trustees Jan Fersing, Gary Terry, Anne Skipper, Sen. Wendy Davis, and President Harold Jeffcoat. |
Davis was most impressed by the true concern she saw exhibited by Wesleyan's faculty and staff for the success of each student on campus and the diversity across the student body in terms of age, ethnicity, and religious affiliation. Davis recognizes the role the University plays in the development of southeast Fort Worth and commended Wesleyan for serving as the catalyst of the revitalization of the Polytechnic/Wesleyan area. Although she had been on campus years ago, this was Davis’ first visit in her new role as State Senator for District 10. In addition to the student-centered focus in the classroom, Davis was also quite impressed by the accomplishments of Wesleyan's athletic teams. Senator Davis graduated first in her class from Texas Christian University, and graduated with honors from Harvard Law School. Elected as the State Senator for District 10 in November 2008, Davis started serving in this post in January 2009. Texas Monthly named freshman Senator Wendy Davis "Rookie of the Year" and most recently, she was named a "Legislative Star" by the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. She previously served nearly nine years on the Fort Worth City Council.

Latest and Greatest University Calendar
Have you noticed some changes in the University calendar? Some of the calendars have been separated according to the specific needs of students and faculty, prospective students, and the entire Wesleyan community (see drop-down menu under CALENDAR on the home page). There’s even an option to customize your calendar view and an option to view the law school calendar!
A link to the calendar can be found in the following three places on the University homepage: 1) just to the right of the gold Wesleyan flame at the top of the page under CALENDAR; 2) under Information Resources/Calendar; and 3) under Department Directory/Calendar at the bottom left-hand corner.
The calendar is a great way to stay informed of campus events and the perfect place to post your own University events! Everyone is strongly encouraged to not only check the calendar before scheduling anything to prevent conflicts, but also to check it frequently to stay informed of what's going on around campus. Go to: http://www.txwes.edu/alumni/UniversityCalendar.htm for a list of individuals to contact in your area if you would like to add an event to the calendar. If you have any questions, contact DeAwna Wood, assistant director of alumni relations, at dwood@txwes.edu or 817-531-6548.
