Continued eligibility for transfer scholarships is determined by the remaining number of hours needed for graduation as defined by the student’s degree plan. Review Process Satisfactory academic progress of each student receiving financial aid and scholarships will be reviewed annually at the end of the spring semester for both cumulative grade point average and cumulative hours. A student who does not meet the minimum requirements for satisfactory academic progress or the requirements of her/his academic scholarship will be advised that her/his academic record does not reflect satisfactory academic progress and she/he will be placed on one semester of probation. If at the end of the grace semester the student who has been placed on probation is still not making satisfactory academic progress, she/he will be notified that further assistance through the Office of Financial Aid will be denied until her/his academic record meets the required standards. Appeals Process Students requesting reinstatement of financial aid and/or scholarship eligibility after remedy of suspension action, must do so in writing to the Director of Financial Aid. As stated in the University Catalog, students who have not met the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements and have been placed on financial aid and/or scholarship suspension may appeal the suspension and the subsequent loss of financial assistance within 14 days of the date of the letter notifying the student of action taken. Where an extenuating circumstance (illness, serious injury, death in family, etc.) exists, a student may appeal the suspension of aid by submitting the request to the Director of the Office of Financial Aid. Such requests will be presented to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Appeals Committee. The written request may include supporting documentation from the student’s physician, counselor, faculty member, etc., if appropriate. The Director will ask the chair of the Committee to convene to review the written requests. The Committee will review the student’s written request along with any supporting documentation, the student’s academic transcript, and any other pertinent information. The Committee is authorized to grant, on an individual basis, an additional semester of probation as an exception to the Satisfactory Academic Progress policy or to deny the student’s request.
