About Us Mission of Office The Office of International Programs (IP) promotes, assists and coordinates international activities throughout Texas Wesleyan University. IP provides the admission and support of international students in their stay and study here. The office also assists American students and faculty in pursuit of their study and research abroad. All aspects of International Admissions are handled in the Office of International Programs. The office provides recruitment materials and support, handles inquiries, processes applications, admits international students, and provides assistance upon arrival with a two-day Orientation to help students settle in. All issues related to international students are handled by International Programs. The different international scholarships are decided and awarded through this office. Mandatory Health Insurance is provided through this office. All aspects of immigration service are administered by IP including issuance of I-20s, SEVIS registration, maintenance of students/university status, and student support for CPT, OPT, and EAD. International Programs also provides several social services to the international student population at Texas Wesleyan University. Assistance is given to students when settling into their housing and new lifestyle, and monthly shopping trips allow students on campus to stock up on their supplies. Academic help is provided by individual tutoring and computer-aided tutorials. Personal counseling is available to aid students in adjusting to their new environment. The aim of Texas Wesleyan is to create a friendly, supportive environment for international students so they can focus on their studies and American experience. The International Club is an organization for both international and American students to develop understanding and friendships while enjoying fun activities. Members have monthly luncheon meetings, take field trips, have monthly dinners at ethnic restaurants together, and participate in a variety of campus support activities. Every year students from the club assist in International Week activities and present the International Fair in which they showcase native foods, music, and objects from their individual countries. The club is designed as a way to ease the transition for new international students and as support and friendship for upper-level students. American students benefit from learning more about the cultures from other parts of the world and enjoying new cultures. The International Club acts as a support group for the students and as a service group to the campus. Study Abroad for American students is another area of International Programs which advises Texas Wesleyan undergraduates about study abroad and international scholarships. Studying abroad can be one of the most exciting opportunities available to students in their college careers. Texas Wesleyan encourages international study as a way of enhancing undergraduates’ understanding of the world’s people, environments, and economies and the interdependence of nations. The Office of International Programs promotes courses and trips offered by Texas Wesleyan faculty, and it informs students of scholarships that are available for study abroad. It also assists undergraduates in selecting appropriate universities abroad to fulfill and enhance their curriculum here. International Programs further works with faculty members and other schools to enhance Texas Wesleyan's role as an international institution of education and research. By coordinating with other universities and scholarship programs, Texas Wesleyan faculty and students will have many more options in their work or study abroad. In order to bring awareness of the Texas Wesleyan community to the importance of internationalization, the International Programs Office presents International Week each year. The week involves the whole campus and offers the campus the sights, sounds, and tastes of different cultures. Besides International Week, IP brings to the University speakers and provides students, faculty and staff with a variety of activities which will assist them in developing an international understanding and sensitivity of the world even as they remain on campus.
