IT offers Texas Wesleyan Students and Employees hardware and software support.
Support,repair requests, and assistance can be retained via IT technicians either by calling
817-531-4428 or email @ helpdesk@txwes.edu.

Services

User ID and Passwords

IT provides information technology accounts to the Wesleyan community
for the purpose of supporting instructional, research, and administrative activities.

In addition, Wesleyan provides photo ID cards with electronic identity accounts through
the Wesleyan ID Center located on the 1st floor of the EJW Library.

Lost or Forgotten User IDs

Name Changes
User IDs and e-mail addresses can be updated when a user legally
changes his or her name. Names must be changed in the official university
records before the information technology accounts can be updated.
To request a name change, complete the appropriate request form and
submit it to the Help Desk in EJW B-32.
Account ownership will be verified using the official TW photo ID card.

Users are responsible for saving, then restoring, all mail and documents to a local machine prior to the accounts under the old user ID being terminated.


Account Terminations
Information technology accounts are for the use of current members of the Wesleyan community
Access to a person's network and e-mail accounts will be disabled when that person leaves
the university or officially changes his or her user ID.

Once an information technology account is disabled,
no individual will be able to access data stored under
that person's network or e-mail accounts without proper written authorization.
It is the responsibility of the user to copy and save his or her important
data before the account is terminated.
After a 30-day transition period, all data stored under the terminated account is deleted.

Printing

Beginning August, 2004, Texas Wesleyan University students will have 500 pages free per semester for computer labs for black and white print jobs. You will be notified by the computer system that you are close to printing your paper limit.

Your printing account will automatically reset to 500 free pages at the beginning of each semester. Any balance on the original 500 pages will not accumulate into the next semester. Individuals who purchase additional pages and have a remaining balance at the end of the semester will have the purchased balance accumulated into the next semester.

To Begin Session:

Select CTRL+ALT+DELETE. You will be prompted to a User Name/Password Screen:

Your user name and password are the same as your RamLink or WebCT username and
password.


To End Session:

  1. Select the Start Button at the bottom of the desktop.
  2. Select the Log Off button. You will then receive the following prompt:





  3. Select Log Off again. This will end your session.


************NOTE************

If you fail to log off, the computer will automatically log off after 2 minutes of no activity. If another individual uses the system and your session is not properly terminated, said individual will be able to use your printing account.



When printing in the computer labs you will receive the following messages:

Low Balance Warning:


"Your printing paper account balance is less than 25 sheets. Please visit the Library Circulation Desk located on the first floor of the EJW Library building to purchase additional paper."

When the balance in the user's account does not have enough money to do a print job:

"Your printing paper account balance is insufficient for this job. The print job has been canceled. Please visit the Library Circulation Desk located on the first floor of the EJW Library building to purchase additional paper."



Additional paper may be purchased and applied to your printing paper account by visiting the Library Circulation Desk located on the 1st floor of the Eunice and James West Library. The cost for additional paper is:

  1. $0.05 per page – black and white printing
  2. $0.50 per page – color printing

If you are unable to log on to the computer using your RamLink/WebCT username and password, please contact the ICT Call Center at (817) 531-4428.

Wifi

Wesleyan provides current faculty, staff, and students access to the university wireless network at various places throughout the university.

Telecommunications

Add/Moves/Changes

IT has the ability to provide additional office telephone lines,
move telephone lines to new campus locations and change office phone numbers upon request.

Long Distance Codes

Wesleyan employees have the ability to make long distance calls form university telephones using assigned Long Distance Codes.

VOIP

IT acts as an intermediary between TW and the vendors who provide equipment and line repair services.

Home Office Hardware

TW employees are eligible to purchase technology items at discounted prices through an agreement with Dell Incorporated.

Software

IT provides varying levels of support for Windows Operating Systems and a
variety of desktop software products for Windows environments.

Wesleyan supplied computers:
Availabe University software products fall into three categories
    Baseline
      Productivity software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.)
      Communications software (Internet Explorer, Outlook, Media Player, etc.).
      Available on all machines throughout the campus.

    Non-Baseline, Site Licensed
      Approved software not included in the Baseline software list.
      A limited number of approved licenses are available for use,
      and can be requested to be installed in offices, work areas or classrooms and labs.

    Discipline specific
      Software that does not fall into the definition of baseline or non-baseline software
      Employees may request installation of discipline-specific software in
      offices, work areas, classrooms and labs.

Personal use computers
Employees are eligible to purchase one license of each of the following:
       Operating Systems
            Windows 7
       Productivity Software
            Microsoft Office 2011

  Anti-Virus
      Wesleyan loads anti-virus software on all Wesleyan desktop and laptop computers.
       If you are needing anti-virus software for your personal computers there are many
       sources available via retail and online.

      IT provides consultation services to TW employees and departments for
      university projects requiring the purchase, installation, or support of technology.

      IT also provides assistance with identifying technology hardware and
      software necessary to achieve academic or administrative goals.

Classroom/Labs

Computer Labs and Classrooms throughout the Wesleyan campus are equipped with technology to provide
access for the Wesleyan community for both Internet and Network services.

The different types of technology that may exist in a classroom and are supported by IT are:

    Desktops and Laptops

Computer Labs

There are three types of computer labs throughout the Wesleyan campuses:

    Open Use
      Open use computers are available on the first and second floors of the West Library
       and in the Law Library.


    Departmental teaching
      Departmental Teaching Labs are located in various building across the campuses.
      These labs are for instructional use and are operated by academic departments.

      Software available in each lab varies by location and is determined by requests submitted

    Academic Success Center

      The Academic Success Center Lab is located on the 1st floor of the West Library.
      This computer lab is used for student tutoring, class registration,
      and student access to specialized software and IT resources.
      The lab is available to Wesleyan students Sunday through Friday. Hours of operation are posted
      outside the Center.

Media Services

About Us!
Service and support is what the media department at Texas Wesleyan University is all about.

From maintaining and installation to production and distribution,
Media is a full service department for the Wesleyan community.

All staff, students, and faculty all have access to the facilities
and services the Media Department provides.
We produce instructional and educational media materials for curriculum,
assist in the distribution and exhibition of media across the campus networks,
and aide in the media promotion of the university, its departments, and its organizations.

If you, your class, your department, or your organization has need of production,
distribution, or displaying of multi-media, this is the gateway to solving your communications challanges.

The media department is also responsible for implementing media standards and practices across campus.
Along with media technology distribution, our goals in this area also include training.
You will be pleasantly surprised at what potential for media production lies in yourstandard desktop.
Through our instruction and tutorial programs we can help you unleash your media potential.

Services Available
A wide range of media production services are available for the staff, students, and faculty.
Desktop media production is now as proliferate as word-processing!

Acquisition
Studios, cameras, microphones, and recording equipment of various formats are
available to capture the content of your communications message.

Editing
Non-linear editing technology allows trimming, rearranging, and enhancement of your material.
A wide range of materials are acceptable for inclusion: still images, audio, animation,
graphics, and video.

Distribution
A variety of broadcasting methods are available to deliver
your message to your audience: web, DVD, CD-ROM, and Cable Network.

Training.
Yes, you can learn to produce your own media message! One of the goals of the
Media Department is to provide the university body with the skills necessary to
effectively communicate through the modern electronic medium.

Duplication/Transfer
Need a copy? How about a transfer? Is that old VHS or Beta on its last legs?
We can transfer it to a more modern, durable format..
