Information on taking the comp exam, graduating, and getting your LPC

There are a few steps you need to do to graduate and to receive your LPC. First, you must pass the comp exam that is offered through our department. It is a practice NCE and is offered March, June, and September of every year. If you need to take the June exam, an announcement will be sent out in May to have you register with me and pay the fee. After you have sent me an email, you need to pay $40 to the Cashier's Office and bring the receipt to the exam. For questions about study materials for the comp exam, you can look at the NBCC website http://www.nbcc.org/ or talk to your pre-practicum or practicum instructors.

After you have passed the comp exam and graduate, you need to find a LPC supervisor. Once you have secured a supervisor, you need to fill out the forms on the Texas Department of State Health Services website http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/counselor/. You then submit that paperwork to the state for approval. At that time, the state conducts a background check and will send you instructions on taking the NCE and the Texas jurisprudence exam. The NCE is offered at testing centers and the jurisprudence exam is offered online. After you have passed the exams and the background check, you will be issued a LPC-i, which begins the countdown for the 3,000 required hours to get your LPC.

If you have additional questions, please contact your advisor, your pre-practicum instructor, or your practicum instructor.
