The ambitions of the Media Guild at Texas Wesleyan University are threefold: |

1. Expose students to new technology and the traditional standards of media production and provide opportunities for individual and group media expression.

2. Provide opportunities for students to learn about and participate in the local professional media production community.

3. Augment the efforts of the university curriulum.

Goal #1: The University has facilities, staff, and resources in place to produce multi-media productions. The goal of the Guild is to employ those resources in order to provide students with the opportunity to gain real world experiences and expressions in the medium of media.

Production opportunities for students will directly affect their real world opportunities. Specifically, graduates will present themselves and their skills more accurately in a job interview by presenting their reel. (A “reel” being a short presentation of the student’s most polished production pieces. It represents the extent of the student’s experience and skill with media communications. It is literally a media resume.) The goal of the Guild is to encourage and support the student’s development of their production reel.

The Guild is also poised to be a resource for the university. Staff, students, and faculty will present communications needs from curriculum, departmental, and organizational sources. The Guild seeks to foster production resources for these endeavors. As more and more technicians and artists assemble, more opportunities will arise to produce promotional materials, instructional series, and informational programs. Furthermore, these resources will not be limited to promotional and educational efforts. In addition, production opportunities will be provided for political, artistic, and religious expression.

The Guild also seeks to support charitable productions. As non-profit organizations need communications materials, the club will seek to provide services to them.

Goal #2: The North Texas areas is rich with professional production and broadcast companies. As Guild members become more affluent with media skills, they will be afforded contacts for placement in jobs and internships with local companies. We will foster close relationships with these local businesses through tours, lectures, and economic partnerships. The group will invite the officers of these firms to speak at meetings and participate in our productions.

Furthermore, the Guild’s relationship with the professional community will be encouraged by participation in industry conferences and conventions. We will also endeavor to produce media materials designed for submission into festivals and competitions.

Goal #3: Communication, Arts, and Athletics have traditionally been associated with having the most direct applications for media communications. But, the Guild seeks to provide permanent resources for expression for all curricula, as well as assist members with placement into post-graduate studies.

While the emphasis of this organization may seem major-specific, we encourage all students, staff, and faculty to join us in our endeavors.
