METCALF ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR

MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY

Dr. Linda Metcalf, associate professor of graduate counseling at Texas Wesleyan, was elected as president of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). She will serve two years as president-elect, two years as president, and one year as past-president. She was nominated and voted into office through a national election process of all members of the AAMFT.

Metcalf has taught at Texas Wesleyan since January 2006. She earned a BA at Baylor University, a master's degree at Texas Christian University, and her Ph.D. in marriage and family therapy at Texas Woman's University. Recent publications include Counseling Toward Solutions, 2nd Ed., 2008, John Wiley and Sons, and How to Say It On College Applications, 2007, Prentice-Hall.

 

The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) is the professional association for the field of marriage and family therapy. It represents the professional interests of more than 24,000 marriage and family therapists throughout the United States, Canada and abroad. Since its founding in 1942, the AAMFT has been involved with the problems, needs and changing patterns of couples and family relationships. Its members meet rigorous standards for education and training and are held to the highest ethical standards of the profession. The AAMFT facilitates research, theory development and education. It develops standards for graduate education and training, clinical supervision, professional ethics and the clinical practice of marriage and family therapy.
