Master of Science in School Counseling

Welcome to the Master of Science in School Counseling Program at Texas Wesleyan University. 

The Master of Science in School Counseling is designed to prepare students to become licensed school counselors. The program consists of thirty-six credit hours (thirty-nine beginning summer 2008) and a minimum of 150 practicum hours. Courses are offered during the day in the summer and evenings and Saturday mornings during the fall and spring. This program began during summer 2006. Upon completion of the course work, practicum hours, and passing the TExES exam for school counseling, students are eligible to be employed as a school counselors in the public or private school setting.

Admission Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
* Undergraduate GPA of 3.25 on last 60 hours attempted or 3.0 overall or score of 900 or greater on the GRE (combined score on verbal and one other subtest)
* Must be a certified teacher with two years teaching experience
* Interview with faculty

*The Practicum in School Counseling is performed in an ISD setting by ISD personnel.

Most courses can be applied toward the
Master of Arts in Professional
Counseling degree for students who wish
to become Licensed Professional
Counselors (LPC).

+This course will not transfer
into the LPC program.
