Julie Whittington McCoy,
soprano, combines careers in performing and teaching. Most
recently, Ms. McCoy performed with the Fort Worth Symphony
Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Texas Choral Artists
and Orpheus Chamber Singers. She appeared as a guest soloist
with Fort Worth Early Music, Tulsa Sinfonia, Tulsa Oratorio
Society and Austin Choral Artists. Dallas Morning News recently
commended her "strong, stirring soprano."Tulsa
World called her singing "luminous" and praised
her "burnished tone and delicately emotional reading."
In 1994, Ms. McCoy performed as an Artistic Ambassador with
pianist Cynthia Cortright. On a four-week tour under the
auspices of the U.S. State Department, McCoy and Cortright
presented concerts, lectures, and master classes in Israel,
Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Syria.
As a member and soloist, Ms. McCoy performed and recorded
with Robert Shaw Festival Singers in France and New York
City from 1990-1999. The Festival Singers are featured on
several releases from Telarc Recording Company, including Amazing
Grace, Evocation of the Spirit and Appear and Inspire.
Ms. McCoy was awarded opera apprenticeships with the Mississippi
Opera Festival of the South and the New Orleans Opera. As
a recitalist, she premiered works by Donald Grantham, Steven
Rush and Brant Adams. She earned Bachelor of Music in Secondary
Education and Master of Music in Vocal Performance degrees
from The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining
the Texas Wesleyan University voice faculty in the fall of
2005, she taught at the University of North Texas in Denton,
Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and Oklahoma State
University in Stillwater.
