How do I pay for my room?
The deposit is paid to the Housing and Residence Life Office at the time that an application is submitted. Checks, credit cards, and money orders are acceptable forms of payment. Room charges are included on the fee bill that you receive. You will not receive a separate bill.

May I bring a firearm to school?
No. Possession or use of firearms, fireworks, explosives, flammables, dangerous chemicals, hand guns, rifles, pistols, shotguns, paint pellet guns, weapons of any kind, including BB guns, stun guns, switchblades, knives with a blade longer than four inches, martial arts equipment, bows and arrows, etc., or other objects with the potential to cause bodily harm are prohibited. It is a felony to possess a weapon on campus.

May I bring a refrigerator?
Yes, provided that it is a small one and is no more than 1,000 watts. There is a full kitchen with a full sized refrigerator in the lobby of each residence hall. Residents in the Wesleyan Village will have a full sized refrigerator in their unit however students may keep a small refrigerator in their private bedroom.

May I bring a waterbed?
No. The weight of a filled waterbed is too heavy for the structural design of the residence halls.

May I bring all of my electrical appliances?
All electrical appliances must be fire-safe in design, structure, and maintenance, such as UL-approved appliances. The residence halls are not equipped to handle heavy-drain electrical appliances (more than 1200 watts), such as window unit air-conditioners, hot plates or full-size refrigerators, and they are not permitted. Any electrical device that disturbs other residents is not permitted. The University reserves the right to impose reasonable requirements with respect to the use of appliances or equipment in the residence halls. Only extension cords with an in-line fuse or circuit breaker are allowed! Some examples of prohibited items are listed below; however, the list is not all-inclusive. Please see the Fire Safety Brochure for a more complete list.

  • More than five appliances.
  • Hot plates, deep fat fryers, electric grills, combustibles, open coil appliances,
  • Construction barriers and street signs.
  • Kerosene or electric heaters, candles or incense, open flame self-igniting or explosive apparatus.
  • Power tools (I.e. drills, saws, sanders, etc.)
  • Darts, dartboards, and liquid filled furniture.
  • Mopeds, motorbikes, motorcycles
  • Electric blankets
  • Halogen lamps

May I decorate my room?
Sure! In fact, you are encouraged to personalize you room in a way that will make it more comfortable for you. Just remember the following guidelines:

  • Any room furnishing added by a student must be free standing.
  • No part of one's personal furnishings may be attached, wedged or secured in any manner to the ceiling, floor, or walls of the room.
  • No item may be located so as to obstruct direct access to the door or windows so that evacuation is hindered.
  • The student or his/her guest may alter no room furnishings from their intended design.
  • No common area furniture may be taken from the lounges or other areas and placed in student rooms or moved to other locations.
  • There is no storage in the residence halls outside of your assigned space.
  • Residents may not perform or modify their own repairs of residence hall furnishings or equipment.
  • Residents may not remove furniture from their room without written permission from the Hall Director or their designate.
  • No window decorations may cover the blinds.
  • Foil may not be used to cover windows.

May I bring my pet?
For health reasons, fish (maximum 5 gallon tank) are the only pets that residents are allowed to have in the residence halls, unless the pet is needed for a disability.

May I have overnight guests?
The residence halls serve as your home away from home, and to many students, it is the only permanent residence they will have for the four years that they are at Texas Wesleyan. A program allowing residents to relax and entertain guests in an informal, home-like atmosphere is stressed. If you are planning to have an overnight guest, please see your Hall Director for the appropriate form. Overnight guests of the opposite sex are not allowed.

May I paint my room?
Unfortunately, rooms may not be painted at this time. If you feel that your room needs to be painted, notify your hall director for assessment. Your room will then be added to a wait list of rooms to be painted.

What about high-speed Internet access?
Each room comes with one cable modem. We do not supply cable cords, additional modems, or routers. There is an $80 charge if the modem is not there at checkout. Wesleyan Village will have wireless internet access.

What about a stereo or a TV?
Each hall has a TV in the lobby for your use, but you may bring your own TV. Each room in the housing system also is wired to provide free basic cable to residents. Premium stations (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc.) may be purchased through Charter Communications at (817) get-charter. We recommend waiting to order additional channels until you arrive, as room assignments can change.
What you watch or the type of music you play is your decision, but the volume is of concern to everyone. If you like your music or TV loud, be sure to bring headphones.

What about telephone service?
Each room has a telephone jack, which is not activated. To do so, you would need to call Southwestern Bell. We recommend waiting to do this until you arrive, as room assignments can change.

What are the dimensions of my room?
Elizabeth Means Armstrong Hall: 14’L x 12’W
Wesleyan Village: Efficiencies – 394sq ft. Four-bedrooms: 880 sq ft.
Stella Russell Hall: 18’10”L x 10’9”W
See the Residence Halls link on this website for actual layouts..

What are the chances of my getting a single room?
If you wish to live in Wesleyan Village you will have your own room if you lease a bedroom in the four-bedroom unit, or if you lease an efficiency unit by yourself. If you plan to live in one of our traditional residence halls, your receiving a single is based on when you have submitted both your contract and your deposit. All rooms will be assigned as doubles first. If space allows, we will then begin to assign single rooms.

What if I lose my key?
For safety reasons, it is important to report a lost key when it happens. We will change your lock at a cost of $70 per lock. If your key was stolen, file a report with campus security and then report the incident to a hall staff member. We will change your lock. If you leave your key at your parent’s house, we can let you into your room.

What kind of insurance do I have on my belongings?
The university does not provide insurance on residents' property; residents are responsible for the security of their own property. The university also is not liable for theft or damage to residents' property. Students are encouraged to get renter’s insurance or to take out a "rider policy" on their parents' homeowners insurance.

What will I need to bring?
You will need your own pillow, sheets, pillowcases, blankets, towels, clothes hangers and personal belongings. You can bring your own bedspread, rugs and curtains, although many people prefer to wait until they have contacted their roommates so that together they may coordinate the look of their room. For more information about what is permitted, please see the Fire Safety Brochure.

Where do I park?
Because the residence halls are on campus, a car is not necessary. However, if you do bring a vehicle, you will need to go to the library and pick up a parking permit. The first one is free. Tell them that you are living on campus and they will issue you a residential tag. You will be ticketed and towed for failing to follow the parking guidelines.

Who can live in Wesleyan Village?
Wesleyan Village is available to all students who are non room grant recipients, on a first come first served basis. We advise you to apply early, as we expect spaces to fill up fast.

Who chooses my roommate?
If you know with whom you would like to live, please put their name on your housing application, or call us and let us know their name as soon as possible. If you do not know, we will match based on the information you fill out in your housing contract/application.

Will I have to share a bathroom?
Elizabeth has suite bathrooms. The maximum number of people you will have to share a room with is three (your roommate and your suitemates). There is a bathtub on each wing of these buildings. Stella has community bathrooms. In Wesleyan Village there is one bathroom per efficiency, and two bathrooms per four-bedroom unit.

How long are the mattresses?
