Championships
CITY BEACH,
Calif. - Texas Wesleyan Table Tennis team won four
championships out of a possible five this past weekend at
the American College United International Championships.
Sophomore Eric Owens won the Men's singles title, defeating
Florida Atlantic's Keith Alban, 10-12, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6,
11-2. The No. 1 seeded Owens won two other matches on his
way to his second consecutive title.
"Eric said that this was the toughest tournament he has ever
played in, (physically)" head coach Christian Lillieroos
said. "He was favored going into the tournament, and had a
lot of pressure to win the event. Every player he faced
played him tough.
" Freshman Bijana Golic took home first-place honors in
women's singles, defeating 2000 USA Olympic team member
Michelle Do of Santa Clara University, 11-9, 11-9, 11-7 in
the championship. "Biljana won three events and didn't lose
a single game in any of the events," Lillieroos said. "This
is something that has never happened before
in this tournament."
Golic teamed
with Owens to defeat Florida Atlantic's Alban and Beata
Wronka, 11-3, 11-7, 11-6, to win the mixed doubles title.
Golic also teamed with freshman Sabrina Worrell to defeat
Wronska and Augusta College's
Boglarka Masters, 11-9, 12-10, 11-7, to win the women's
doubles title.

Roberts and Jared Lynch who teamed up, but lost to UCLA's

the women's singles division. She came back from a 2-0
