THE 2007 COLLEGIATE TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS AT OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY

MARCH 30, 2007

DEFENDING CHAMPS LOOK AS STRONG AS EVER

COLUMBUS, OH:  The three-time defending national champion Texas Wesleyan University table tennis team opened play in the 2007 ACUI/NCTTA National Collegiate Table Tennis Championships at Ohio State University.  The powerhouse Rams look as strong as ever, and are competing for their fourth consecutive team title and numerous individual and doubles titles.

The Rams have already taken one title and are guaranteed two more.  Jasna Reed and Ines Perhoc topped Stanford in a power packed women’s doubles final on Friday.

Saturday’s mixed doubles and men’s doubles final will both be all Texas Wesleyan affairs.  In mixed doubles, Mark Hazinski and Reed will take on Carlos Chiu and Perhoc.  In men’s doubles, Chui and Dinko Kranjac upset Princeton University in the semifinals and will face Hazinski and Ludovic Gombos.

The women’s team has advanced to Sunday’s semifinals with 4-0 wins over Ohio State and Boston University.  The Co-ed team is also undefeated at 2-0 with 4-0 wins over the University of Wisconsin and Penn State University.  The Rams will continue play tomorrow with the semifinals and finals scheduled for Sunday.

Singles competition is also underway with round robin opening round action.  All six Texas Wesleyan men and four of five women have advanced and will continue in tomorrow’s single elimination action.

“We are looking very good so far,” said Jasna Reed.  Reed, a former Olympic medallist and the original member of the Texas Wesleyan Table Tennis team, is now Co-head coach along with Keith Evans.  “Everyone played very well, and hopefully we will keep it going.”
