TABLE TENNIS DYNASTY THRIVING:
RAMS SWEEP ALL TITLES AT NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
COLUMBUS, OH: Interested in dynasties in college sports? Consider that after sweeping all seven national titles at the 2007 ACUI/NCTTA National Collegiate Table Tennis Championships Texas Wesleyan University has won 28 of a possible 36 national titles over the last six years and 13 of 14 in the last two years.
On Sunday, the Rams won their fourth consecutive coed national championship, an event that has only been held for four years. They also won their first women’s national championship in their second try.
At this year’s tournament, the Rams pulled a remarkable sweep, taking titles in the coed and women’s team events, men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
In the coed team event the Rams swept Wisconsin and Rennselaer 3-0 in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively. That set up a 1 vs. 2 final with Princeton, which the Rams won 3-1. In the women’s event Lady Rams topped Cornell 3-0 in the semifinals to set up another 1 vs. 2 final in which the Rams topped defending champion Stanford 3-1.
