Theatre Wesleyan PLAYMARKET 2009

Theatre Wesleyan is seeking submissions of new full-length or one-act plays for presentation in

New York in May 2009.

All Texas Wesleyan University alumni and current students are eligible to enter.

Rules for submission:

~Playwrights should provide four (4) copies of each submission, firmly bound. No clips please.

~Each playwright may submit a maximum of two (2) scripts, including any work co-written.

~The play(s) should be unpublished, in English, and must not have been previously performed, excluding workshop readings and Theatre Wesleyan productions.

~The play(s) may be either full-length or one-act and should have a running time of 40-120 minutes.

~Screenplays or teleplays, translations of another work, ten-minute plays & musicals are not eligible.

~The script should be in standard play script format in 12 point Times New Roman Font.

~Pages should be numbered

~The playwright's name should not appear on manuscript pages.

~Submissions should include the following:

1. Title page with playwright's name and all contact information (including phone numbers, email address, mailing address).

2. a second anonymous title page with no playwright identification

3. a 150 word synopsis (not a promotional teaser)

4. character breakdown and given circumstances

5. a separate signed statement that the play has not been published or previously produced (except by Theatre Wesleyan, if applicable).

6. a separate sheet listing the history of the play script (ie: workshops, readings, etc).

~The number of actors needed for the staged reading should not exceed 10

~We encourage all playwrights to submit double-sided copies of scripts in order to save both trees and postage.

~All entries will initially be read by a team of Texas Wesleyan University Faculty, Staff, Alumni and other Theatre professionals. Finalists will then be submitted to the NYC producers for final judging.

~All entries should be mailed via USPS, UPS, FEDEX, etc and must be postmarked by December 1, 2008

No electronic submissions can be accepted

~Selected playwrights will be notified by March 6, 2009 and must agree to attend the staged reading in New York City in May.

~The selection process for The Wesleyan PLAYMARKET 2009 is a 3-month process. We will notify you by e-mail when we have received your submission.

~Due to limited resources, Texas Wesleyan University cannot cover the cost of travel or housing for selected playwrights.

Any submission not meeting the above-listed criteria will not be considered.

PLAYMARKET 2009 will be presented at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, May 18, 2009

Rattlestick Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Wesleyan alumnus Mike Skipper

will serve as the final judges for this event.
